Man shot near DeLand, suspected shooter detained, Volusia sheriff’s office says

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A man was found shot early Sunday in a carport near DeLand, according to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded shortly after 5 a.m. to the 1500 block of West New York Avenue, locating the man lying on the ground and finding he was conscious but had suffered gunshot wounds, the sheriff’s office said on social media .

First responders stopped the man’s bleeding before he was taken to a hospital, “where he was expected to survive,” the post states.

The suspected shooter was contacted and detained on scene without incident, the sheriff’s office said, adding witnesses who had fled the shooting were also contacted at a nearby Winn-Dixie parking lot.

An investigation is said to be ongoing.
