Ten months after the new Scottsdale City Council reinstated the city’s budget review commission, no one seems to know what it’s supposed to do or how to do it.

Members of the commission met with the city council Nov. 17 to get their marching orders for the coming budgetary cycle, but they seemed to get largely disparate answers from the individual council members.

“I think last year you spent a lot of time trying to figure out where the BRC fit in and I still think maybe we haven’t quite defined that enough,” City Councilwoman Maryann McAllen told the commission before telling them they shouldn’t go into the “deep dives” it did last fiscal year.
