The builder behind a towering and controversial three-storey home on Hamilton’s west Mountain is no longer in control of the property after defaulting on his mortgage, property records show.
Omre Taha lost ownership of 279 Bonaventure Dr. on July 31 after the home — initially built without a permit — was granted to a numbered Ontario corporation under a power of sale.
The transfer came about two months after the beleaguered contractor was convicted in provincial offences court (in absentia) of six building code violations at the property between December 2023 and February 2024, including construction without a permit and repeated flouting of stop-work orders. He was handed a $174,000 fine and a 12-month probation order.
