The heartbreak in Newark deepened this week after officials confirmed that 19-year-old Masi Rogers has died from injuries he suffered during last weekend’s mass shooting on Chancellor Avenue.

Rogers, who had been listed in critical condition since Saturday, passed away Thursday, becoming the third life lost in the tragic incident.

The shooting unfolded just after 7 p.m. near Chancellor Avenue and Leslie Street, a quiet stretch of the South Ward where families were returning home and children were finishing their weekend routines.

When officers arrived, they found several victims struck by gunfire—including 10-year-old Jordan Garcia and 21-year-old Kia Mae Scott.

Both were rushed to University Hospital but did not survive.
