According to a report that aired on this week's broadcast of Alabama Political Reporter's "The V," former U.S. Sen. Doug Jones (D-Mountain Brook) will file paperwork to run for governor on the Democratic ticket for the 2026 election.

Host Bill Britt said he expected the paperwork to be filed with the Alabama Secretary of State's office "this coming week."

"[I] got a call from those very, very close to former U.S. Senator Doug Jones," Britt said. "And we can now report with certainty that Doug Jones will file his paperwork with the Secretary of State this coming week to run for Governor of Alabama."

Panelist Josh Moon welcomed the news.
