Srinagar, Nov 23: In a push to expand mineral development in Jammu and Kashmir, the Union government will on Monday start the auction of seven limestone blocks, the first instance of mineral bidding in the Union Territory since the Centre introduced a new system of transparent mine allocation.
Announcing the decision, the Ministry of Mines said the auction marks a major shift in the UT’s mining framework, which until now depended on smaller, locally managed allotments.
Officials said the fresh process aims to bring greater competition, clarity in resource allocation and a long-term roadmap for sustainable extraction.
