A 2.4 magnitude earthquake rumbled outside LaFayette, Georgia in Walker County Sunday morning.

The United States Geological Survey says it happened around 6:37am, and was at a depth of 5.5 kilometers, or 3.4 miles underground.

It was reported about 2.4 miles southwest of the town.

Minor seismic activity is common in Northwest Georgia. The most recent earthquake before Sunday's shaking was Thursday, November 13 in Chickamauga.
