Penn State sent 17 wrestlers to the semifinal round and five bouts in the finals were Nittany Lion vs. Nittany Lion. The most surprising of those was at 125 where freshman Nate Desmond knocked off top-ranked Luke Lilledahl 5-3 with a takedown with about 15 seconds left.
The head-to-head teammate matches will not count on the wrestlers’ records, and Desmond is expected to redshirt.
