Christian Pulisic really seems to love playing against Inter.
Pulisic carried his stellar form against AC Milan's arch-rival into the new campaign, scoring on Sunday in a 1-0 victory in the Derby della Madonnina.
The AC Milan star scored twice in five matches last season against the Nerazzurri, and tallied what would end up as the game's only goal in the 54th minute on Sunday.
Against the run of play, Milan took the lead early in the second half off a counterattack. Alexis Saelemaekers took a low shot from distance that goalkeeper Yann Sommer could only parry directly into the path of Pulisic, who had a simple tap-in from close range.
It was the seventh goal of the season for Pulisic, and his first since September after he missed a month with a hamstring injury suffered with the U.S. men's national team in October.
Inter had a golden chance to level the match with 15 minutes to play, but Mike Maignan produced an outstanding save to deny Hakan Çalhanoğlu from the penalty spot.
The victory saw Milan leapfrog Inter into second place, two points behind Roma at top of Serie A.
Pulisic returned from his injury just before the November international break, playing the final 20 minutes of a 2-2 draw with Parma.
The 27-year-old was held out of USMNT duty during the FIFA window, with both club and country opting to allow him to rest and continue recovering from his injury.
Pulisic started on Sunday, playing 78 minutes before he was replaced by Christopher Nkunku.
