A 17-year-old boy has been charged in connection with the death of his mother, authorities in Atlantic County announced Sunday, Nov. 22.
Julissa Serrano, 49, was found with multiple stab wounds just after 6 p.m, Saturday, Nov. 22, after Hamilton Township police were called to the Meadowbrook Condos in Mays Landing, the county prosecutor's office said.
Serrano was transported to AtlantiCare Medical Center in Atlantic City, where she died from her injuries, authorities said. The cause and manner of death are pending an autopsy by the Southern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office, officials said.
The teen was charged with murder, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon, according to the release. He was processed and taken to the Harborfields Atlantic Youth Center, where he is being held pending his first court appearance, officials said.
The case is being investigated by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Hamilton Township Police Department.
