DETROIT -- It was all bad for the Detroit Lions against the New York Giants on Sunday. Until it wasn’t.
Jahmyr Gibbs and kicker Jake Bates saved the day, with the defense responding with some big fourth-quarter stops and an Aidan Hutchinson sack to seal a 34-27 overtime win.
After Bates’ 59-yard field goal forced OT, Gibbs took the first snap 69 yards for a touchdown and the first Detroit lead of the day. The Giants’ possession in overtime ended on Hutchinson’s fourth-down sack, as the Lions moved to 7-4.
Gibbs finished with 219 rushing yards, 45 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Only Barry Sanders (1991) and Cloyce Box (1950) have had similar days statistically for the Lions .
After stopping New York on fourth-and-goal, the Lions took over down 27-24 with 2:54 remaining, Detroit
