GRAND FORKS - The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for Tuesday into Wednesday of Thanksgiving week, predicting a 70% chance for minor impacts to holiday travel.
The system will move west to east across North Dakota and Minnesota, bringing accumulating snow and increasing winds, leading to reduced visibility, according to a NWS-Grand Forks release issued Sunday afternoon.
Because it will be the season’s first widespread snow and it coinsides with a holiday travel period, the potential for travel advisories will be greater, the release said.
Northerly winds of 25 to 30 mph combined with moderate (0.5”/hour) to heavy (1”/hour) snow rates will lead to blowing snow, but uncertainty remains on how fast the snow will accumulate, the release cautioned.
