On the heels of winning a national award, Light Up Okotoks ushered in the festive season on Friday.

Each year, the historic downtown is closed for the street festival on a Friday in November, and this year’s was awarded Best Event for a City or Municipality at the 2025 Canadian Event Awards.

Thousands filed down to Elizabeth, McRae and North Railway Streets for Christmas carols, wagon rides and ice sculptures. The main stage featured several acts, including members of the Foothills Philharmonic Chorus, fire dancers from Indigo Circus and some mischievous meddling from the Grinch.

One of the most popular traditions involved a youngster getting to flip the giant switch that lights up the tree at the clock plaza, and at 9 p.m. fireworks capped off the evening.
