Michigan’s leaders have a generational opportunity to make a real and meaningful difference in the state’s economic future. They shouldn’t squander it by putting another coat of legislative lipstick on corporate welfare pigs.
After a string of high-profile failed Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) deals, legislators in Lansing, led by Speaker Matt Hall, R-Richland Township, have killed the failed Strategic Outreach and Attraction Reserve (SOAR) Fund and are considering a new, heavily downsized economic development tax credit program they call ‘Real Jobs for Michigan.’
