What do New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy, a Democrat, and U.S. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins, a Republican, have in common? Both supported the Henry family farm as it fought eminent domain proceedings.
For 175 years, the Henry family has owned and farmed 21 acres in Cranbury Township in Middlesex County, New Jersey. Northeast of Trenton, the township is home to about 3,800 residents.
Andy Henry, 72, and his brother, Christopher, 71, are the current owners and descendants maintaining the 21 acres, a farmhouse, and a herd of 40 beef cows. They have invested $200,000 in maintenance. For decades, they have repeatedly declined offers from developers ranging from $25 million to $30 million for the property.
