SOUTH KINGSTOWN – Moses Meus didn’t see anything like this growing up.
The University of Rhode Island wasn’t a championship football program. There were times the Rams seemed more likely to – or certainly heard more outside calls to – drop the program entirely than eventually become champions again.
That’s part of what made Saturday afternoon at Meade Stadium extra sweet. URI put its hands on a second straight Coastal Athletic Association trophy, and the Rams did it with some significant help from a few in-state natives.
Meus was one of them, and his joy at the postgame podium was obvious. The former standout at St. Raphael now has a pair of rings to show off in his native Pawtucket following a 38-10 dusting of Hampton on Nov. 22.
