When New York Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers was 15 years old, his mother, Tonya Nabers, drove him to a 7-on-7 football tryout hosted by former NFL safety Ryan Clark. The Lafayette native knew nothing about the noncontact, passing-focused sport or what it could do for her son, but she was hopeful someone would see what she’d always seen in him.
