Mike “EZ” Zawahri has spent over 40 years serving Akron with a generosity that has turned his drive-thru at 1182 Grant St. into a vital lifeline for area families.

Open 10 a.m. to midnight Monday through Saturday, EZ’s Drive Thru has become a cornerstone of community support.

Each Thanksgiving, Zawahri said he spends roughly $800 a day out of his own pocket to provide turkeys, hams, vegetables and other essentials for families, totaling around $12,000 by the holiday. Local residents often donate.

"A lady gave me $100, a guy gave $60, another $50. People pitch in without me asking," he said.

Police officers and city officials frequently volunteer to manage traffic and help with distribution.
