As families prepare to gather together in their own homes for Thanksgiving, a topic of conversation throughout Birmingham — including its city hall — is The Community House and, more specifically, what will happen to it.

The 38,500-square-foot house, a cultural and social center of the city, is for sale.

"It has been an important part of our community," Linda Solomon, who said she grew up in Birmingham and has a photography studio in the city, told the Free Press last week. She added, "I want to find out: Is there a way to save it?"
