The enforcement surge took place between 10 and 16 November under Operation Drive Insured, an initiative supported by the Motor Insurers’ Bureau (MIB).
Despite several warnings on social media from police about the operation, almost 60 drivers took to the roads uninsured, and the majority headed off with a £200 fine and six points on their licence.
The figure is almost double the weekly average, with police typically removing around 30 uninsured vehicles from the roads each week.
Superintendent Jonathan Wilson said the operation sent a clear message about the consequences of driving without insurance: “During the recent operation, the majority of drivers stopped will have been issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice, which carries a £200 fine and six penalty points,” he said.
