Health, and in particular our NHS, is always high on the agenda and is close to us all, so it was no surprise that it was raised again at First Minister ’s Questions recently.

The First Minister, in reply to a question, informed the chamber that there are more staff working in the NHS than there was when the SNP came into power and that 97% of discharges happen without delay.

Another interesting statistic shared by the First Minister was that 23,181 operations were undertaken in September 2025, a 13.7% increase on September 2024.

Hip and knee operations reached their highest in 2024.

We must give credit where credit is due and thank our dedicated NHS staff.

Catriona C Clark, Falkirk.
