With pedestrian collisions and deaths on the rise in Calgary, concerns about problem intersections and the city’s walkability are increasing.
Calgary scored an abysmal 39 out of 100 by Walk Score , an agency that measures a city’s walkability by analyzing amenities accessible by walking routes. This score puts Calgary as the 13th most-walkable large city in Canada.
In comparison, Edmonton scored similarly with a walk score of 40 and is listed as the 12th-most-walkable large city in Canada.
According to Walk Score, amenities within a five-minute walk are given maximum points. Fewer points are awarded as destinations become more distant, with no points given after a 30-minute walk.
