Marks & Spencer has published a “ wish list ” of almost 200 London locations where it wants to open standalone food stores.

The high street retailer wants to double the size of its food business and is looking for larger sites that could stock the full range of M&S food, growing the target size of its food stores to an average of 18,000sqft

This summer M&S announced it has bought 12 Homebase sites which are set to become some of its largest standalone food stores – the first of which is set to open before Christmas in Cannock .

The company currently plans to 20 new or renewed M&S stores between November and March, creating 800 jobs.

Across the UK it has named 500 potential locations, of which nearly half are in or around the capital.
