In a last-ditch effort to save a historic Door County lodge , a group of Egg Harbor taxpayers has petitioned a judge to review the village's decision issuing a demolition permit.

It's the latest twist in a development fight that began last winter when Matt Sagorac bought the waterfront portion of the Alpine Resort property for $6.75 million. He requested a raze permit to tear down the century-old lodge, which he plans to replace with private homes.

Outcry ensued. The resort carries a long tradition of allowing public access despite being on privately owned land.

The village's Architectural Review and Historic Preservation Board denied Sagorac's raze permit this summer. But the Zoning Board of Appeals essentially overturned that decision in an October meeting where one board member
