Kiya Bowman left no doubt.
After dominating the competition during her senior season, the star Kalamazoo Central diver soared to making Maroon Giants girls swimming history by capturing the program’s first-ever diving state championship at Friday’s Division 1 state finals at Oakland University.
Bowman showed out with a final score of 422.60, winning by more than 30 points and capping a season for the memory books with the state’s ultimate prize.
Bowman’s feat marks the second consecutive season a K-Central swimmer has won a state championship –– Toledo swimmer and former Maroon Giant standout Maggie Spybrook won a state title last season in the 100-yard butterfly (56.14).
After earning all-state honors as a junior at the 2024 state finals, Bowman roared back with a stellar senior year
