The Boston Red Sox struggled to hit for power late in the season, and could make adding a power hitter a priority this offseason. The team ranked 29th in home runs in August and September.
Lucky for the Red Sox, there is no shortage of power hitters in this year’s free agent class. Pete Alonso, Kyle Schwarber and Eugenio Suárez are all available, but Alonso may make the most sense as a fit. Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter predicted the Red Sox would sign him.
Triston Casas suffered a season-ending injury this year, and he could miss some time. The Red Sox could have a hole at first base that Alonso could fill. When Casas returns, Alonso could slot in as a designated hitter, something his agent said he is more open to doing moving forward.
