COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio High School Athletic Association on Monday voted in favor of allowing high school athletes to get paid for their name, image and likeness .
The decision now allows high school athletes to sign NIL deals. It comes a week after the organization began its emergency voting process to weigh on the matter.
According to a press release, 447 OHSAA member schools voted in favor of the new referendum, with 121 schools voting against it and 247 abstaining.
The new bylaw goes into effect immediately, OHSAA says.
NIL allows athletes to make money off their brand and ability. Ohio has allowed college athletes to sign NIL deals since 2021.
