Nine teams from Hampton Roads are set to play in Virginia High School League region football championship games on Friday at 7 p.m.
In Class 6, Oscar Smith, the defending region and state champion, hosts Thomas Dale in a Region A title game, and Class 5 features four area teams going head-to-head: defending region and state champ Maury at King’s Fork in Region B; Indian River at Green Run in Region A.
Phoebus, also a region and state champ last season, visits Lafayette at Wanner Stadium in a Class 4 Region A showdown; Lake Taylor hosts Petersburg in Class 3 Region A; and Poquoson travels to Richmond to play Armstrong for the Class 2 Region A title.
Region championship game winners advance to the VHSL state semifinals the following week.
