Lawmakers and colleagues are mourning the death of state Rep. Kevin Ryan , a Democrat who is being remembered for his humor and personal charm while serving in the legislature for the past 32 years.

Ryan won his first legislative race in 1992 when Lowell P. Weicker, Jr. was serving as governor. Since then, he served in a wide variety of positions that included co-chairing the labor committee and serving as a deputy House Speaker, along with serving in 2024 as chairman of the national Council of State Governments that represents legislators.

He died Sunday night at age 73 after a long illness.
