The former mayor of Enfield has issued an apology to the council for writing letters to support his family and friends’ visa applications.

Mohammad Islam stood down from his position on Enfield Council in north London after he was penalised for bringing his office into disrepute.

The council’s conduct committee had him prepare a written apology, undertake code of conduct training and not wear his previous mayor badge.

Islam has said he has accepted the findings and pledged to ensure his future conduct reflects the expectations of public office. He has expressed concerns about the committee’s process and says he intends to go to the Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman.
