A Liverpool Labour councillor has had the whip removed amid an ongoing investigation. Cllr Assen Christov will sit as an independent member on the city council after the Labour group confirmed a probe had been launched into his conduct.
According to the largest group on the local authority it was “no longer deemed appropriate” for the Vauxhall ward member, who was elected for the first time in 2023, to sit within their ranks. He is now listed as an independent in the city council’s political make-up.
The reason for the investigation has not been confirmed at this stage. It is thought the allegations do not relate to any misconduct towards any fellow members.
