Generous Express readers have pledged almost £50,000 to transform the lives of children, just two weeks after our Christmas appeal launched. Wheelchair charity Whizz Kidz said it was “completely blown away” by the incredible response as donations and cheques flooded in. The £48,813 raised so far is enough to buy 10 life-changing personalised wheelchairs or provide a range of other support including activity sessions, wheelchair skills training and essential maintenance reviews.
It comes as the charity faces overwhelming demand from desperate families. It was recently forced to close its waiting list for the first time in 35 years, with 1,000 children in the queue and more wanting to apply.
