COLUMBUS, Ohio. (WSAZ) - Members of the Ohio High School Athletic Association voted in a favor of an emergency bylaw referendum on Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL), making Ohio the 45th state to allow NIL at the high school level.
The new bylaw goes into effect immediately.
Now, OHSAA student-athletes can now enter into agreements and be compensated for their NILs through appearances, licensing, social media, endorsements, and/or the use of branding based on public recognition or notoriety, according to the OHSAA.
The OHSAA also says the new bylaw establishes reporting procedures and limitations so that students do not jeopardize their eligibility as it relates to the OHSAA’s recruiting and amateur bylaws.
