BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - A Hampden man serving more than four decades in prison for shooting and killing his sister-in-law is once again appealing his conviction -- this time, his original legal team is the reason for the appeal.
Philip Clark was sentenced last January to 43 years for the murder of Renee Clark in July of 2018.
His current attorney, David Paris, says there are multiple arguments as to why his previous lawyers, David Bate and Logan Perkins, failed Clark during the trial to get a manslaughter conviction instead of murder.
Perkins took the stand in court in Bangor on Monday.
She was asked why she didn’t call Clark’s bother and Renee’s estranged husband, Frank Clark, to the stand, despite mentioning him more than 30 times in opening statements.
