A North Plainfield police sergeant was charged last week with four counts of shoplifting from a supermarket in Hillsborough, court records show.
David R. Canica, 50, who has worked for the North Plainfield Police Department for 27 years, faces multiple counts of shoplifting as a disorderly persons’ offense for thefts that allegedly occurred on Nov. 3, Nov. 9, Nov. 10 and Nov. 19.
TapInto reported Canica allegedly shoplifted $213.82 worth of merchandise at the Weis Markets in the 300 block of Route 206.
Store security used Canica’s shopper rewards card information to identify him. Police contacted him, and he later surrendered at the Hillsborough Police Department, where he was processed and given a court date, TapInto reported.
