CINCINNATI – Drake Maye didn’t look right.
That was seen early on Sunday as the Patriots quarterback struggled against the Cincinnati Bengals and their NFL-worst defense. This season, Maye has ascended to the top of most NFL quarterback statistical rankings and emerged in the MVP conversation.
On Sunday, the ball didn’t seem to be coming out of his hand the right way, and his decision-making looked off. That point was emphasized at 14:19 of the second quarter when Maye threw an easy interception to Bengals safety Geno Stone, who ran back 33 yards for a touchdown.
Maye’s performance was unlike anything we’ve seen this season, so a natural question after the game was if the quarterback was OK. Was he dealing with an illness? Did he hurt his hand?
