The iconic New Year’s Eve ball gets its first redesign in 16 years, with more crystals, new experiences, and a permanent public display.

A sparkling new era is set to begin at Times Square this New Year’s Eve as a brand-new ball has just been unveiled.

It marks the first redesign since 2009 and the ninth version in the tradition’s storied history.

Called the "Constellation Ball," it features a dramatic new look with circular Waterford crystals for the first time.

The “Infinite Edition” design, presented on Monday, Nov. 24, incorporates 5,280 crystals — nearly double the previous count — arranged in three different sizes.

The result is a pattern that organizers say embodies the theme “Infinite Joy, Infinite Light, Infinite Beginnings.”

At 12.5 feet in diameter and weighing 12,350 pounds, the ball remains the same size as its predecessor, but the upgrades are clear.

Each crystal disc is cut to reflect light in a way that organizers hope will dazzle the crowds and viewers around the world.

For visitors and locals alike, there’s another reason to celebrate. The ball will now be permanently accessible to the public at the newly renovated One Times Square. Two new ticketed experiences are debuting:

The Ball Access Experience, which includes a 360-degree viewing deck, a guided tour, and a photo opportunity with the ball.

The Premium Ball Experience allows guests to place a personalized crystal on the ball and take home a keepsake crystal from the previous design.

The previous ball won’t be forgotten. It’s slated to be part of a new immersive exhibit set to open in 2026.
