Authorities have identified the driver killed in a collision on Interstate 85 last week as 37-year-old Ruben Lemus Arana of Guatemala.
The fatal crash occurred shortly after 11 p.m. on November 17. According to the Georgia State Patrol, Arana was driving a 2001 Toyota 4Runner towing a Honda Civic southbound near mile marker 38 when his vehicle was struck from behind by a 2024 Mack garbage compactor truck, which was also traveling southbound.
The impact caused the 4Runner and the towed Civic to separate and veer into the median. The 4Runner overturned, ejecting Arana from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
All southbound lanes were closed for approximately two and a half hours as crews worked to clear the area.
