GREENVILLE, S.C. —
Greenville community leader, Mary Duckett, will be laid to rest Saturday.
Mayor Knox White credits the long-time president of the "Southernside Neighborhoods in Action" with helping make Unity Park a reality.
Duckett passed away Nov. 16 just days after speaking at the opening ceremony for the Honor Tower.
Her son, Demetric Duckett, says his mother spent her 85 years giving a voice to those who are often overlooked.
While her family will hold a graveside service in Piedmont, they are also planning a public memorial to be held in spring 2026.
And for those who would like to pay their respects this week there, will be a viewing on Wednesday and on Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Downtown Chapel of Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes.
