A comparison of Thanksgiving meal essentials at Aldi, Walmart and Hy-Vee showed the total price differences varying by about $4 between the most and least expensive options.

The comparison used generic, store-brand versions of each items at Aldi, Walmart and Hy-Vee.

Turkey prices vary by store

A 48-ounce Butterball frozen boneless turkey breast roast costs $12.09 at Aldi, $12.97 at Walmart and $14.99 at Hy-Vee.

The 3-pound turkey would feed about six people, following the general rule of half a pound per person for boneless turkey breast.

Side dishes show price gaps

A packet of turkey gravy mix costs 65 cents at Aldi and 67 cents at both Walmart
