The Alhambra Police Department was scheduled to hold a candlelight vigil for an officer who died in a crash last week while following a stolen vehicle.

Officer Alec Sanders died last Thursday on Valley Boulevard near Raymond and Fremont avenues when the stolen Hyundai crashed into his patrol car, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Officer Sanders, 28, had a swearing-in ceremony earlier this month. He had been working with the Alhambra Police Department for eight months after spending a year with the Long Beach Police Department.
