SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Amazon announced plans to invest an additional $15 billion in Northern Indiana to build more data centers, which are said to include 1,100 new high-skilled jobs.
Officials with Amazon state the company has worked with NIPSCO to establish an energy framework that's intended to bring benefits to existing customers and strengthen Indiana’s electric grid.
The energy agreement is said to include:
Amazon will pay all costs associated with serving its new data center campuses. Through NIPSCO’s new subsidiary called GenCo, Amazon will pay for the use of existing NIPSCO infrastructure and fully fund the construction of any new power plants, power lines, and equipment upgrades required for the project.
