The Pentagon has started a probe into Democratic Senator Mark Kelly after U.S. President Donald Trump called for punishing a group of lawmakers who publicly advised intelligence community and military members to disobey orders that would break the law.
In a social media post, the Defense Department said the Arizona lawmaker and former U.S. Navy officer had been accused of “serious allegations of misconduct” and could face “recall to active duty for court-martial proceedings or administrative measures.”
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, in a separate post, said the Pentagon was reviewing “his statements and actions, which were addressed directly to all troops while explicitly using his rank and service affiliation — lending the appearance of authority to his words.”
