Khalila Mohammed heard the call come over her walkie-talkie as she sat inside the Leslieville supervised-injection site.

There was a fight outside.

Mohammed had just been in the courtyard next to the South Riverdale Community Health Centre on Queen Street East, where she worked in harm reduction. Nothing had been amiss.

She headed back outside, toward the street. To her left was her co-worker, who had called for help.

“Then I heard gunshots.”
