SAINT-VALLIER, Quebec — A shooting incident in Saint-Vallier-de-Bellechasse has left one minor dead and another hospitalized. The event occurred on Sunday afternoon, around 4 p.m., when police responded to reports of injuries at a residence on De Valléville Road, located east of Quebec City. Upon arrival, officers found one minor unconscious. Emergency responders transported the victim to a hospital, where they were later pronounced dead. The deceased has been identified as a female student from a local elementary school. The second minor, whose identity has not been disclosed, sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and is currently in stable condition. Provincial police have not confirmed the ages or genders of the minors involved, nor their relationship to each other. A spokesperson for the regional school service center stated that the other injured minor does not attend their schools. In response to the tragedy, the school service center has deployed a team of professionals to provide psychological support to students and staff. Alain Vallières, the mayor of Saint-Vallier, expressed his deep sadness over the incident. He described the two young individuals as well-respected members of the community. “It’s a shock for the entire community,” he said. “There are no words.” Vallières extended his condolences to the family and noted the tight-knit nature of the community, which has a population of just over 450 people. As the investigation continues, police have established a command post at the scene. Several patrol cars were present on Monday morning. Authorities have indicated that it is too early to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting, including whether it was accidental. They have also confirmed that the incident is not linked to organized crime in the area. No arrests have been made at this time, and police are awaiting further information before releasing additional details.
