Black Tartan Kitchen in Carleton Place made the OpenTable list of the Top 100 Restaurants in Canada, an annual selection based on more than one million verified diner reviews, five-star ratings, reservation volume and other performance metrics collected between September 2024 and August 2025.

The list, which is not ranked, includes high-profile entries in Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver and Calgary, as well as smaller dining rooms in communities like Whitby and Beamsville. Black Tartan is the only restaurant in the Ottawa area on the 2025 list.

Chef-owner Ian Carswell said he learned of the honour indirectly, after a reporter called asking for comment. “I had to actually Google it after that,” he said, laughing. “But it was a nice little anniversary surprise.”
