CHICAGO (WLS) -- Four people are in custody after a man experiencing homelessness was stabbed to death outside of a downtown restaurant on Sunday morning, officials said.

Chicago police said the man was found unresponsive in the Loop's 200-block of South Wabash Avenue around 7:20 a.m. Sunday. What led up to the stabbing was not immediately clear.

The victim, who suffered an apparent puncture wound to his body, was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said. His identity was not immediately released.

On Monday, police confirmed that charges are pending. Police originally took six people into custody, but two were released without charges.
