AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - The holidays can be tough when you can’t be with family. For many kids in foster care, that’s a reality every year.

In Augusta, someone very special is helping ease that pain by providing support and comfort. His name is Sparky.

Sparky is more than just a dog to the youth he visits. He’s support.

“I think he helps us out by calming us down when we’re angry or upset,” one youth said.

The two-year-old Great Dane has been visiting Murphy-Harpst’s foster homes twice a week, providing pet therapy to children in care.
