MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCSC) — Federal protections for many wetlands could soon disappear under a new proposal from the Environmental Protection Agency and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
The agencies are proposing a new definition for “Waters of the United States,” which could dramatically change wetland protection across the nation and in the Lowcountry.
The proposal could cut many wetlands from getting protection. Some environmentalists claim it would allow for development on wetlands that are currently protected.
