MALVERN — Philadelphia’s public transportation system received nearly an additional $220 million in state funds to help the agency meet a federal compliance mandate that includes repairing and making safety upgrades to aging electric regional railcars and, as a result, meeting its own goal of restoring full service.
The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority is under emergency order of the Federal Railroad Administration to inspect and repair its entire 225-deep fleet of Silverliner IV Regional Rail trains.
